CHAMPIONS' LEAGUE FINALS' DAY PLAYER LIST                JUNIOR CHESS HOME PAGE            CHESS HOME PAGE

Dear Parents / Carers

CHAMPIONS’ LEAGUE CHESS - FINALS’ DAY: MONDAY (Bank Holiday) 1 MAY 2017

If you have received an email from us inviting you to read this page, it is the official invitation for your son(s)/daughter(s) (as listed on the web site - see link above) to enter for the final of the 2017 Champions’ League Chess Competition. For details of the different finals and how team selection works, please see below. Basically, everyone involved in qualifying a team will play some part in one of the Finals' Day events.  Only where players turn down the place (or fail to reply by the quoted deadline) will others be offered the chance.

Please email us and let us know NOW if you are not going to accept the place as we will be holding the place otherwise.
Not replying prevents someone else being offered the place and perhaps having the time to accept it.  The longer you take to answer, the less time we have to find a replacement else AND YOU EFFECTIVELY REDUCE THE CHANCES OF YOUR TEAM WINNING BY NOT REJECTING THE PLACE EARLY if you can't make it.

ENTER ONLINE HERE
(CCF does not accept responsibility for costs of a player who books without invitation)
£18 IF BOOKING BY 9am ON WEDNESDAY 19 APRIL £25 IF BOOKING AFTER 9am ON WEDNESDAY 19 APRIL
Child's Name, School & DOB
ONLY IF ACCEPTED,
YOU WILL BE SENT A PRIVATE EMAIL PAYMENT LINK
Players originally invited have until 9am on Wednesday 19 April to register for the cheaper rate.  But an earlier entry helps the team come together! Anyone given at least a week to the deadline will then only be allowed to book for the late fee - if  allowed to book at all.  Alternatively places will then be on offer to other players.
Please note that if you enter and then withdraw for any reason,
we will only consider making a refund if your place is subsequently and suitably taken by another eligible player.
PLEASE SEE CONDITIONS OF ENTRY

Please note that the date for the final is the Monday of the first Bank Holiday weekend in May (this is NOT half-term week).

GENERAL INFORMATION

All players will be required for all rounds - players seeking to miss some rounds will leave their school at a disadvantage and normally should not enter, although in some cases, it MIGHT be possible (and would be preferable to a complete default).

Rounds are scheduled for 25 minutes each on the clock.

CCF have the normal insurance to cover for their public liability. However, please note that, although CCF will do their best to supervise players on the day, legal responsibility for the safety of your child is yours and not CCF’s. Your child’s school and your child’s trainer cannot be held liable for the safety of your child.

Players and parents are reminded that the playing hall is strictly out of bounds except for those still playing (and captains whose teams are still playing).

CONDITIONS OF ENTRY - ANY ENTRY TAKEN IS DONE SO ON THIS BASIS OF AGREEMENT TO THIS INFORMATION

THE FINALS' DAY PAGE WILL BE CONSTANTLY UPDATED AS PLAYERS ACCEPT AND REJECT PLACES.  PLEASE NOTE THAT A PLACE IS NOT CONSIDERED AS ACCEPTED UNTIL PAYMENT IS RECEIVED.  After the deadline, may go on "general sale" to anyone eligible if not claimed.

THERE ARE 3 WAYS TO ENTER:
1    (preferred method) - PAY ONLINE (see link at top of this letter)
2    Send a cheque to CCF's office (not via trainers or schools)
3    Deliver Cash to CCF office

Please NEVER hand payments to trainers or school offices as we cannot accept liability if they go missing.  All entry fees must have been received by CCF in advance of the dates quoted and players will be left out if payment has not been fully received.  It is your job to check the web site has recorded your entry and chase us if it has not been listed.

LOCATION - Chipstead Valley Primary School is a mile west of Coulsdon Town Centre and very close to "The Hungry Horse" pub.

PARKING:  There will be some on-site parking; we are not yet clear whether BOTH car parks will be at our disposal, but neither are that large and you are advised to arrive early if you want a space.  There is a car park at "The Hungry Horse" but we expect that is for patrons only.  Please do not park outside the venue on the Chipstead Valley Road, but you can "street park" on How Lane, although again, there is not masses of space there.

EMERGENCY CONTACT NUMBER
Those entered will receive a contact mobile number on the confirmation email (sent on the Thursday preceding the event).  Please text that number in the event of late arrivals - we prefer texts and not phone calls as we can then deal with messages more easily.

WHAT ARE THE EVENTS?
Champions’ League Final - The main final is for the best teams from each of the 4 qualification zones.
Europa League Final - For the next best teams from each zone, but who did not play in last season’s Champions’ league final.
Chessfa Cup - For the best non-1st teams from each zone, who have not already qualified for either of the above finals.
State Cup - for the next best 1st teams who are not from private schools.
Schools’ Individuals’ Challenge - For those successful in any of the eight Individuals’ competitions held in the qualification phase plus every team in the finals is entitled to a reserve who will play in this event unless needed.

HOW THE EVENTS WILL RUN
Except for the Schools’ Individuals’ Challenge, which will be run on a standard Swiss system, the competitions will be run on an all-play-all format. Teams will play all of the other seven teams within their final and charts will map out the day telling each player who they are playing in each round, at what time, what colour and on what board. Each team scores 3 points when the team wins, 2 points for a team draw and 1 point for a team loss.

League positions will be decided on 1) Most Points, 2) Goal Difference (board points scored minus board points conceded), 3) Most Board Points scored (this can be different if two or more teams are short of players on the same board), 4) Direct result between the teams tied (including board count and bottom board elimination where necessary).

OTHER GENERAL INFORMATION
Medals:
Every child playing will be presented with a medal, but only if they stay and receive it at the prize giving. We consider the prize giving as important a part of the event as the playing and expect every player to remain for it. We will not normally pass on medals to friends or hand them out early or via schools.
Food for Sale: Drinks and Tuck Shop.  You should bring a packed lunch as we can no longer serve "prepared" food.
Clothes: As far as CCF is concerned, players can wear what they wish.
Advise us: of any medical conditions you feel we should be aware of in respect of your son/daughter.
Win all your Games?: A tough job with 7 rounds, but the cash booty is there for those that do.

HOW TEAM SELECTION IS DONE
Every player involved in either leg in qualifying  a team for the final will be invited to take part.  Under discretion & invitation from CCF, the team manager will be responsible for team allocation for the final.  Anyone not selected by their trainer for one of the teams will represent their school in the final of the Schools’ Individuals’ Challenge.

Every school who won a Schools’ Individuals’ Challenge at one of the qualification rounds in entitled to have the players involved in that success  playing in the final of this event.

Every team has the right to a reserve in the Schools’ Individuals’ Challenge if there is not one there already from other means of qualification.

Please note that we send the invitations to those eligible under our rules to be selected to attend.  We cannot guarantee anyone will be selected for the main teams as team managers are obliged to list their players in descending order of playing strength, with the best 4 players in the (1st) team and so on.  However, all four events are full of players battling for trophies for their school and should be seen as just as important as each other.

NB: Anyone expecting to arrive after 10-35am on the day should phone CCF and advise us, as we may otherwise have to assume you are not coming and replace your child in the team to ensure the smooth running of the competition.
